Gridiron the most popular sport in American played from the east to the west coast & Dundee, Scotland?

The Dundee Hurricanes are an amateur American Football team who haven’t won a game 22 months,

 

They are officially the worst team in Britain with rising costs to keep the club afloat and the team struggling to retain and recruit players. The new season finds the club with a new Coach, new found optimism and believe that they can reach their Holy Grail, the play-offs.

 

The only thing in the way, life: Jobs, injuries, family commitments. All of this for a hobby which results in players with broken bones, concussions that affects their relationships and everyday jobs. Many of the players have work commitments and family commitments throughout the season and this affects the training and matches. Some of the players have phoned in sick so that they could play a game, but some find it difficult to find a balance and that has resulted in the team having on occasion 17 players for a game when a good number to have is 35. The end result has been defeats for the team in the past. But this season, the team as a whole, has vowed not to let this happen. However, as the season unfolds will the enthusiasm still be there especially if they suffer defeats? This film gives you an intimate insight into the players and coaches’ passion for the game and how they try to juggle life with their commitment to their team. 

 

 

 

Michael Dotts is an American who grew up with the game

but never played, Everyone was really excited when he first

come along to the team as they thoughthe would be an

experienced player instead he learned to play the game

from his Scottish team mates. He still can’t believe that’s

there’s a team in Dundee and thinks of it a good way to

make friends in Scotland. He wants to bury the past by

winning games, loves the game, it makes him feel 

closer to home. loves the bond between the players and

having something to look forward to during the season.

 

 

 

 

Kris Gibson is a man on a mission. That mission is 

to defy what his body is saying and continue to play

 football. With over 8 confirmed concussions and a 

few more that he didn’t think were worth going to 

the hospital for, this is a man who has played with 

broken bones. In Kris’s eyes, failure is not an option. 

He wants to go through the season uninjured, to win

 games, to prove to himself  he can take the hits, 

But recently he doesn’t know if it’s worth it anymore

 to put his body through the punishment. He’s 5ft 4

 and evens his son calls him shorty, despite being 

small for the game he remains one of the most 

dedicated players in the team.

 

 

 

 

 

One of the Coaches & one of the best Players is Fraser 

Thomson.He wants the young players to develop, 

for the team to survive, for the team to have a 

future and is thinking about  concerntrating on 

the coaching role and quitting as a player. 

Has determination to make things better for the 

team and himself. Fraser is one the team’s best 

players and he and is not afraid of expressing his 

opinion to the team regarding a particular 

performance on the pitch. Fraser has recently 

just got married and his wife strongly supports his 

passion for the team and as a trained physio he 

has got her involved with the team helping with

 all the injuries.

 

 

 

 

Craig Blacklaw, Coach,Player, Family man, 

Police officer and Cheese Cake business 

owner. He always ready with a funny comment 

but takes the game very seriously, over 30

 hours a week is dedicated to football, from 

lifting weights to training and watching the 

game, as well as work and making cheesecake

s he doesn’t have a lot of time to spare which 

his wife complains about. Craig is in for the 

glory, wants to put on a show, wants people to

 recognise him as a player and a personality.

 

 

 

Kenneth Landen is from Indiana in American where football

is a religion, He’s played the game since he was 7 he loved

playing football the only other passion growing up was

being in the school choir, his father coached him from early

age and it’s the thing that bonds them together. Kenneth

has played for the team for a few years, but his father had

never seen him play since high school, so his father 

decided to book a flight to see him play his first game of the

new season. Both of them got to relive the experience of

playing the game when he was younger. It meant a lot to

both of them. He has also started a new computer game 

business specialising in Sci-fi games, which he says will

make him the new Bill gates in 5 years.

 

 

 

 

 

Ross McPherson is the Head Coach of the

Dundee Hurricanes, he’s played the game 

for the team over 20 year & only stopped 

after a serious injury to his leg where he had 

pins inserted into his ankle. Loves the game 

& loves th team, he feels frustarted by the 

lack of passion by some of the players

but firmly believes he and the team can 

keep things moving forward.

 

 

 

 

 

Jason West is from Mississippi the south as he 

calls it, Hes like Rock-a-billy music reguarly

playing acoustic gutiar gigs, sipping whiskey

& football. He orginally came to Scotland to 

Study, after moving back to the states for

two years he came back and rejoined the 

Hurricanes as he loves to hit and feeling of 

being part of a team, tries to get across to

Scottish the importance of the game that 

most Americans don’t play after High School.
